Expand Your Stardew Valley Farm with Multiple Pets!
This guide explains how to acquire multiple pets in Stardew Valley, adding more furry (or scaly) friends to your farm. The 1.6 update made this possible, but it requires some steps.
Unlocking Multiple Pets:
Initially, you can adopt one pet. To unlock the ability to adopt more, you must maximize your friendship level with your existing pet. This involves:
- Daily Watering: Fill your pet's bowl daily (except on rainy or snowy days).
- Daily Petting: Pet your pet once a day (a heart bubble indicates success).
Check your pet's friendship level in the "Animals" tab of the pause menu. Once maxed, Marnie will contact you about adopting additional pets. If you skipped the initial pet adoption, she'll contact you at the start of Year 2.
Adopting Multiple Pets:
After receiving Marnie's message, visit her ranch shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Choose the "Adopt Pets" option.
You'll find 12 pet licenses: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtle types. Prices vary:
Pet License | Cost |
---|---|
Brown Cat | 40,000g |
Grey Cat | 40,000g |
Orange Cat | 40,000g |
White Cat | 40,000g |
Black Cat | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Blue Collar) | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Shepherd) | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Red Collar) | 40,000g |

Pet Supplies:
Visit Robin's shop to build Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential to maintain pet friendship. Marnie also sells decorative doghouses and cat trees.
With these steps, you can enjoy a bustling, multi-pet farm in Stardew Valley. Remember to keep those bowls filled!
