Mastering Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake: Essential Tips for New Players

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty requires strategic planning. Here are some crucial tips to aid your quest to vanquish Baramos.

Navigate the Personality Test Wisely

At the game's outset, you'll encounter "She Who Watches Over All," who presents a personality quiz. This quiz significantly impacts your Hero's stat growth. While you can alter personality later with specific accessories, restarting and retaking the quiz for your preferred outcome is simpler. The optimal personality is "Vamp," exclusive to female Heroes.

Customize Your Party for Success

In Aliahan, while Patty offers party assembly, bypass her and ascend to the second floor. There, you can create a custom party, selecting classes Patty omits, allocating stats, and even influencing personalities for superior party members. Crucially, ensure you include a Priest for essential healing magic.

Acquire Powerful Early-Game Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so securing powerful weapons is vital. Locate the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and the Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). These weapons' multi-enemy attack capabilities are invaluable, especially when equipping the Hero and a strong physical attacker (Warrior or Martial Artist).

Take Direct Control of Your Party

While many modern RPGs allow for direct party control, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake initially defaults to AI control. Access the Tactics menu during combat and switch your party's behavior to "Follow Orders" for superior control over their actions and abilities.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict substantial damage. Fast travel is unavailable until acquiring the Zoom spell (around Hero level 8). Until then, keep Chimaera Wings (25 gold each) readily available for quick travel between visited locations, even within dungeons, to prevent party wipeouts.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
