After months of speculation and leaks, Nintendo finally unveiled its next-generation console. A short teaser trailer, released January 16th, showcased a sleek design retaining the hybrid functionality of the original Switch, but with significant upgrades.The teaser revealed a larger screen and a more robust kickstand. The Joy-Cons have been redesigned with magnetic connection, replacing the original rails. A new USB-C port on the console itself was also confirmed.
Crucially, Nintendo confirmed backward compatibility, stating that both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games will be playable. However, they acknowledged that some titles may have limited or no compatibility. Specific details will be released later on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Online functionality will also carry over.
While no exclusive titles were officially announced, the teaser hinted at a new Mario Kart installment (potentially Mario Kart 9), and recent reports suggest Gotham Knights might be coming to the Switch 2. Confirmation on these and other titles is promised in a dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025.

Nintendo is hosting "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events in major cities worldwide, offering hands-on opportunities before the official launch.
Ticket registration opens January 17th, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET and closes January 26th, 2025 at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. A random selection process will determine attendees, with notifications sent shortly after. A Nintendo Account is required.
