Toxic Avenger's Unrated Cut to Hit Theaters After Online Leak

Author : Emily Update:Mar 27,2026

Fans have waited years for Macon Blair’s Toxic Avenger reboot to reach theaters—and their patience is finally being rewarded in just a few weeks. However, some leaks (no pun intended) have already surfaced online, and horror news outlet Bloody Disgusting has confirmed them, giving audiences a genuine preview of just how unrated the theatrical cut will be.

Recently, a Reddit user on r/LeaksAndRumors posted a still from the film with the caption: “A friend at Cineverse hosted a group and showed us clips from the new Toxic Avenger, a reboot of the 1984 film. Managed to snap an epic photo.” The image features Toxie, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, in a compromising situation where he resorts to an extreme—and revealing—tactic to escape a tricky predicament.

According to Bloody Disgusting’s report on the leak, “Toxie finds himself in a unique bind where his only way out is to weaponize his radioactive urine—essentially, pissing his way free from the mess. In the Unrated version, Toxie unzips and fully exposes his ‘Monster Dong.’ Since the moment began spreading across Reddit and other platforms, we decided to spill the beans and address it directly.”

The outlet, which is owned by distribution and production company Cineverse, also shared a statement from Cineverse’s VP of network strategy, Tom Owens, who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001 with Brad Miska.

“Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3 made theaters nervous too, but that turned out well for everyone. We gave Damien Leone complete creative freedom on those films, and we feel the same about Macon Blair and The Toxic Avenger,” Owens stated. “If we weren’t going to release the full Unrated cut, there was no point in releasing the movie at all. Some studios shy away from pushing boundaries. We embrace it. By granting filmmakers true creative liberty, we ensure their vision reaches audiences in its purest, most uncompromised form.”

This leak follows an announcement from the film’s official social media accounts a few months ago, confirming the theatrical release would be an unrated version. They shared an image of Elijah Wood’s villain, Fritz Harbinger, overlaid with an “unrated” tag promising “ultra-violent/toxic content, piss play, mutant nudity, and gnarly theater fun.” Now fans know exactly where the “piss play” originates.

The Toxic Avenger premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 but then spent nearly two years in limbo despite a wildly enthusiastic festival response—reportedly because it was deemed “unreleasable” even in an R-rated form. Cineverse eventually acquired the film, and audiences will finally get to see it when it opens later this month, though the unprecedented nature of the unrated cut has left some theater chains feeling uneasy.

The Toxic Avenger opens in theaters nationwide on August 29, 2025.
