Gaming can be a costly hobby, whether you're a console or PC gamer. Significant upfront investment is needed for hardware, and then there's the ongoing expense of software. While services like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus offer extensive game libraries for a monthly fee, many AAA titles remain exclusive to purchase, often costing upwards of $70.
Free-to-play games offer an attractive alternative, providing entertainment between premium game purchases. Many successful examples already exist, and the free-to-play market is poised for significant growth. However, pinpointing precisely when many highly-anticipated free games will launch in 2024 and beyond is difficult, as confirmed release dates are scarce. Several promising titles are in development, though, with potential launches in the coming months.
Updated December 22, 2024 by Mark Sammut: December saw the release of several noteworthy free-to-play games. Infinity Nikki and Marvel Rivals have been widely praised and offer extensive gameplay. Delta Force, while having a somewhat rough launch, still presents many positive aspects. UFL, however, hasn't gained much traction, though soccer fans might still find it appealing.
