Utomik, the cloud gaming subscription service, is set to shutter

Utomik, a cloud gaming service launched in 2022, is ceasing operations. This marks another significant development in the competitive cloud gaming market. A 2023 survey revealed that only 6% of gamers subscribe to cloud gaming services, highlighting the challenges faced by this emerging technology.

While the initial enthusiasm for cloud gaming has waned, it's premature to dismiss it entirely. Utomik's closure, however, underscores the hurdles faced by smaller, third-party providers. Unlike established players like Nvidia, Xbox, and PlayStation, which possess extensive game libraries, Utomik operated at a disadvantage. The integration of cloud gaming into existing console ecosystems, as seen with Xbox Cloud Gaming, further complicates the landscape.
