Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
TennoCon 2024 delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a massive update set in a retro-futuristic 1999. Get ready for a wild ride through a Techrot-infested city teetering on the brink of a Y2K apocalypse.
But first, a prologue! The "Lotus Eaters" quest, launching in August 2024, reunites players with a beloved Warframe character and sets the stage for the main event. This prologue also introduces Sevatgoth Prime and exclusive weaponry. Completing "Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus. Explore the neon-drenched, Techrot-corrupted city of Höllvania, navigating its streets on the new Atomicyles – vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Command a team of six heroes, the Hex, each piloting a Protoframe – Warframes showcasing their human pilots.
Meet Arthur (Excalibur), Aoi (Mag), Quincy (the new CYTE-09), and more, voiced by a star-studded cast including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them via instant messaging, adding a unique 90s flair to the experience.
Prepare for a showdown with On-lyne, a 90s boy band turned Technocyte-infected enemies, fronted by Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," will be available on major streaming platforms.
Fashion is key! Warframe: 1999 introduces dual fashion frame loadouts and Gemini Skins, allowing players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System. These skins unlock fully voiced dialogue for combat and idle moments, maximizing the impact of the impressive voice acting.
Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to create an anime short based on Warframe: 1999, launching later this year. High-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (early 2025) are also on the horizon.
With Warframe: 1999's Winter 2024 launch approaching, now's the perfect time to jump into the action. Download Warframe today from the App Store.
