Dragon Quest 12 continues to be in development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that information will be shared gradually. Speaking on a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, as reported by Automaton, Horii emphasized that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This marks the first update since May 2024, when Horii had previously acknowledged the passing of the franchise's iconic character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, Yu Miyake, the former lead producer of the series, had transitioned to head Square Enix's mobile game division by that time.
Amid concerns from fans about potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of recent updates, Horii's recent statements confirm that Dragon Quest 12 remains an active project.
