On January 19th, a temporary suspension of TikTok's US operations unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse, a ByteDance subsidiary. This disruption resulted in 24 hours of game inaccessibility. While Marvel Snap is now back online, in-app purchases remain unavailable, and full functionality is still being restored.
In response to this unforeseen event, and citing political risks associated with TikTok's uncertain future in the US market—a 90-day extension to sell a 50% stake to a local owner is currently in place—developers are exploring a publisher change and internalizing some services. An official Platform X statement confirms these plans to mitigate future disruptions. The statement also assures players that “Marvel Snap is here to stay” and that efforts are underway to fully restore the game.
Second Dinner Studios, the game's developer, has promised further updates. While PC players via Steam remained unaffected, many users reported authorization problems, particularly frustrating given the lack of prior warning. This resulted in players unknowingly making in-game purchases before the service interruption. Second Dinner expressed surprise at the event and is actively working towards a complete resolution.
