Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered version of FromSoftware's acclaimed title have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Instagram Posts Reignite Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically lauded RPG released in 2015, holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles is widespread. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have ignited a fresh wave of speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image featured Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others depicted the player character exploring Yharnam's heart and the Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts could simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) are meticulously examining every detail, searching for clues hinting at a long-awaited remaster. The timing, particularly with a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only amplified the excitement and speculation.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location, further stoking the flames of anticipation. Many comments expressed a desire for a Yharnam return, with some playfully suggesting a PC or modern console release as the most iconic location.
The Hunt Continues: Bloodborne on Modern Consoles – Almost a Decade Later
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase. Its critical acclaim and status as one of gaming's greats only heighten the frustration over the lack of a sequel or remaster.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, this precedent also fuels concerns about the potential wait time. The decade-long wait for the Demon's Souls remake has many fearing a similar delay for Bloodborne, especially as the game's tenth anniversary approaches.
Adding fuel to the fire, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in a February Eurogamer interview, acknowledged the potential advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware, emphasizing improved accessibility for a wider audience.
Despite Miyazaki's encouraging words, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware fully publishes, Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony. Miyazaki has previously stated in interviews with IGN that he is unable to comment on the matter due to FromSoftware not owning the IP.
The passionate Bloodborne community continues to hope for a remaster. Despite the game's success, Sony has yet to broaden its reach beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
