Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, as Guns Undarkness will be releasing a free demo. This ambitious project is led by none other than Shoji Meguro, renowned for his work on the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Joining him are Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshinov and rapper Lotus Juice, best known for his contributions to Persona 3.

Meguro's journey began at Atlus in 1995, where he composed music for iconic titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while still collaborating with Atlus. His latest endeavor, Guns Undarkness, is a sci-fi stealth action JRPG developed under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

First unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Guns Undarkness successfully launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2022, meeting all its stretch goals. Following the demo at Steam Next Fest, the game is slated for an Early Access release later in 2025.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game plunges players into a world teetering on the edge of destruction. As a member of a private military company, you'll embark on missions with allies, unraveling the secrets crucial to saving humanity.

The gameplay revolves around two key elements: stealth and battle. During stealth sections, players must navigate the field undetected, gaining a strategic advantage if they manage to engage enemies without being spotted. Battles are turn-based, where players issue commands and utilize a variety of firearms to secure victory.

The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial covering basic controls, the battle system, weaponry, and early-game strategies. The game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, promising about 10 hours of playtime on PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this innovative JRPG.
