How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
The Hermit quest unlocks naturally as you progress through the quests for the blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Once you've successfully located the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He'll share his plan to forge a sword as a wedding gift, which initiates the Hermit questline. Before you can confront the hermit, you must first gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.
Get Information About the Hermit
Start your investigation at the tavern in Troskowitz by speaking with Innkeeper Betty and exploring all available dialogue options. For additional insights, engage with other villagers. In my playthrough, I found valuable information from the alehouse maid and the general trader.
Talk to Gerda and Stanislav
Your next step involves speaking with Gerda in Troskowitz, who witnessed the apparition. You can either offer her a small amount of Groschen or successfully pass a dialogue check to extract the necessary information.
Afterward, travel to Apollonia to converse with Stanislav. Again, you'll need to pass a dialogue check or pay him some Groschen to proceed.
Gather Evidence
Armed with the gathered information, it's time to collect concrete evidence. Head to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free in nearby cemeteries.
After reading the documents, follow the quest marker to Apollonia, where you'll discover a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Examine the horse to obtain your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.
Talk to the Hermit
Make your way to the hermit's hut and engage in conversation with him. Without the gathered evidence, he won't open up. With the evidence in hand, he'll be more forthcoming.
Choose these dialogue options:
- "You’re suspicious."
- Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
- "Out with it!"
The hermit will then reveal that he's not Ambrose but Konrad. Before relinquishing the sword, he'll ask you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret.
Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to find Margaret and give her the cross. This action initiates the Sinful Soul quest, which you can complete immediately by helping her dig a grave for Ambrose. Completing this quest is optional, and you can choose to return to Konrad directly.
Help Konrad or Kill Him
Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders in the vicinity. You now have the choice to either assist the Crusaders in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape.
Approach the hut discreetly, and Konrad will agree to talk. Inform him you've completed the quest and inquire about the sword's location. At this juncture, you must decide whether to aid Konrad or end his life. I chose to kill Konrad, as confronting the Crusaders is challenging, while taking down Konrad is more manageable, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders by your side.
After defeating him, speak with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a modest sum of Groschen.
Get the Hermit’s Sword
Finally, head north of the hermit's hut to locate two tangled oak trees. You'll find the hermit's sword embedded in the ground. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to successfully complete the Hermit quest.
And that’s how you obtain the hermit’s sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and information on the game, including the best perks to acquire first and all romance options, be sure to check out The Escapist.
