In an insightful interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into the unique approaches taken with Omni-Man and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1. Addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, Boon reassured that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to creating distinct experiences for these two iconic characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During the IGN interview, Boon emphasized the creative freedom they have with these characters, ensuring that they will not simply mimic each other's abilities. He stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that." This approach aims to avoid the pitfall of having both characters exhibit similar Superman-esque powers.
Boon further elaborated on how the team has drawn inspiration from the characters' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities. He stressed that the primary attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man will significantly differentiate them, countering assumptions that they might be too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, 'Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'"
