The showrunner of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has highlighted a major distinction between this series and the other two Game of Thrones productions.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to premiere on HBO Max in January 2026, adapts George R. R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella trilogy—a prequel to Game of Thrones set 90 years before the main books’ events.
It’s a major release for HBO Max, but it diverges from Game of Thrones and the earlier spinoff House of the Dragon in several important ways, one of which is sure to trigger an immediate response from fans.
