Netflix has officially teamed up with the creators of the acclaimed video game Sifu to adapt its intense narrative into a feature film. The streaming giant has enlisted T.S. Nowlin, celebrated for his contributions to the Maze Runner series and Netflix's Project Adam, to craft the screenplay for the Sifu movie. While Derek Kolstad, who was previously involved in adapting the game's story, might still be part of the project, his current involvement remains uncertain.
Adding to the project's allure, Chad Stahelski, the visionary director behind the John Wick franchise, along with his production company 87Eleven Entertainment, has been brought on board as executive producers. Stahelski is also actively working on another high-profile video game adaptation, Ghost of Tsushima, showcasing his expertise in transforming gaming narratives into cinematic experiences.
Sifu, which hit the market in 2022, quickly captured the gaming community's attention, achieving over one million sales within just three weeks of its release. The game's storyline revolves around a young martial artist on a quest for vengeance following the murder of their master. Equipped with a mystical pendant that grants resurrection at the expense of aging the protagonist by several years each time they die, the journey through a perilous world filled with danger and intrigue is both gripping and emotionally charged.
