Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for an exciting crossplay update, set to launch in late March 2025. In a recent X/Twitter post, Pocketpair announced that this update will feature multiplayer functionality across all platforms and introduce world transfer for Pals. While no additional specifics were provided, a promotional image showcased various Palworld characters engaged in battle with a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" accompanying the March update. This news is particularly thrilling for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. The studio has outlined a comprehensive content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld made its initial splash on Steam at a $30 price point and was simultaneously released on Game Pass for Xbox and PC. The game quickly shattered sales records and achieved unprecedented concurrent player numbers. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, acknowledged that the game's launch was so monumental that the company struggled to manage the overwhelming profits. In response to Palworld's explosive success, Pocketpair swiftly moved to expand the IP by establishing a new venture called Palworld Entertainment in collaboration with Sony, aiming to bring the game to the PS5.
However, amidst this success, a legal challenge looms from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. They are pursuing legal action against Pocketpair, seeking an injunction and damages on claims of multiple patent infringements. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and adjusted the mechanics for summoning Pals within the game. The studio remains steadfast, vowing to defend its position in court against Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, stating, “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
