This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, counters, and optimal deck building strategies.
What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. This effect automatically dissipates at the start of the opponent's next turn following the Checkup phase.
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or strategic intervention (like evolution or forced retreat) to cure.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical PTCG
Unlike the physical TCG, which offers cards like Full Heal to remove Paralysis, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks direct counter-cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.
Pokémon with Paralyze Abilities
Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making Paralysis a chance-based effect rather than a guaranteed outcome.
Curing Paralysis
Four methods exist to remove the Paralyzed status:
- Time: The effect automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly removes Paralysis.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect, as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions.
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a counter (effective only on Weezing or Muk). Future expansions might introduce more options.
Optimal Paralyze Decks
Paralysis alone is insufficient for a strong deck. Combining it with Asleep, such as using Articuno & Frosmoth (leveraging Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex attacks), creates a more effective strategy.
Sample Paralyze/Asleep Deck
Card | Quantity |
---|---|
Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
Jigglypuff | 2 |
Snom | 2 |
Frosmoth | 2 |
Articuno | 2 |
Misty | 2 |
Sabrina | 2 |
X Speed | 2 |
Professor's Research | 2 |
Poke Ball | 2 |
This deck utilizes the synergy between Paralysis and Asleep for a more consistent and effective gameplay. Remember that card availability and meta shifts may influence optimal deck construction.
