Exciting news for Star Wars fans: Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, might soon be venturing into a galaxy far, far away, and he's reportedly in talks to bring Ryan Gosling along for the journey. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy's Star Wars project has entered negotiations with Gosling to star in what could be a thrilling addition to the franchise. Since 2022, Levy has been meticulously crafting this film, with script development kicking off last year. He's teaming up once again with Jonathan Tropper, the screenwriter of This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both of which Levy directed.
While details about Levy's Star Wars movie remain tightly under wraps, we do know it will be a standalone story, unconnected to the iconic Skywalker Saga. There's no information yet on the era in which the film is set or the character Gosling might portray. The involvement of Gosling, however, seems to have accelerated the project's timeline. Originally, Levy was slated to direct a boy band movie with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but if Gosling officially signs on, this Star Wars film is poised to become Levy's next venture, with production expected to start in the fall.
