Notable outlets such as Gameractor UK, GameSpot, and Eurogamer have awarded the game perfect scores, lauding it as Hazelight's best work yet and one of the most impressive co-op titles of this generation.

Some critics, including VGC, pointed out weaknesses in the storyline and the game's relatively short playtime, saying, "Visually, Split Fiction takes a significant step forward compared to the studio’s previous project, It Takes Two, though the two games share many similarities in terms of mechanics.
