Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as its release date draws near. Amidst the excitement, the studio paused to honor their seminal wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which thrust them into the global spotlight over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters introduces a narrative that is both passionate and infused with humor, focusing on the trials of different versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, 11 Bit Studios underscores a deep thematic link between these two games.
Though set in different worlds and atmospheres, both titles center on the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players tackle the grim realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to ensure their group's survival. Conversely, The Alters frames survival as a race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The fundamental difference lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of diverse civilians, while The Alters introduces a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival adventure.
