Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles, with renowned developers revisiting beloved games such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4. Now, the original Devil May Cry (DMC) might join this prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking it.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans, addressing questions about remakes and sequels. When asked about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Devil May Cry first hit the shelves in 2001, initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the game evolved significantly from its initial concept, leading Capcom to transform it into the distinct Devil May Cry.
Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed that personal heartbreak fueled the game's creation. He shared that a breakup in 2000 left him in a state of depression, and this emotional turmoil inspired the essence of DMC.
Kamiya admits he never replays his games post-release, including DMC. However, he occasionally comes across gameplay clips that remind him of the game's age and its dated design elements. If given the chance to remake DMC, Kamiya would opt for a complete overhaul, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While the idea of a DMC remake isn't currently at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya is open to it, stating that he only fleshes out ideas when projects are in motion. He confidently told Capcom, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."
In addition to DMC, Kamiya has shown interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. With these announcements, fans of Kamiya's work are eagerly anticipating the potential revival of these cherished titles in the form of modern remakes.
