Lies of P Overture DLC Updates
Open To Any Sort of Considerations
After engaging with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Choi Ji-Won, the director of Lies of P, expressed a revitalized approach to game development during the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC). Speaking with Eurogamer, Choi highlighted his admiration for FromSoftware games, a sentiment clearly reflected in Lies of P.
Choi shared his thoughts on Elden Ring: Nightreign, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."
This experience has broadened his creative horizons, leading him to consider new projects. Choi affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."
Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware titles, Choi emphasized his inspiration from a wide array of games. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."
Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players
Choi revealed that Lies of P: Overture is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. This expansion is packed with new bosses and content originally intended for the game's launch. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."
Overture serves as a prequel, setting players in the last days of Krat's haunting, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that couldn't fit into the initial release due to production constraints. Choi likened this expansion to a Director’s Cut, aiming to round out the game's narrative and experience.
He added, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." Choi credited the community's support post-launch as a driving force to fulfill their vision in this expansion.
Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game
During the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified in an interview with IGN that Overture does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of Lies of P provided hints about the future direction of the universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter that a sequel is in the works, though details on Lies of P 2 remain scarce.
Choi emphasized the team's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."
Choi encouraged fans to revisit the base game, suggesting it contains clues about the DLC's content. He also noted that he has been following fan theories online, some of which closely align with the game's direction.
Lies of P: Overture is slated for a Summer 2025 release, though a specific date has not been announced. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news by checking out our comprehensive article below!
