Rocksteady Studios, the creators of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs at the close of 2024, affecting programmers, artists, and testers. Six anonymous employees reported the job cuts, a continuation of September's reductions which halved the testing team from 33 to 15.
Rocksteady faced significant hurdles in 2024, struggling to maintain momentum for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League amidst disappointing player reception. Warner Bros. reported project losses of approximately $200 million. In December, the studio announced the suspension of all 2025 updates, though servers will remain active.
These layoffs weren't isolated to Rocksteady. Warner Bros. Games Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, also experienced significant job cuts, with 99 employees let go in December.
The situation worsened following the game's early access release. Players encountered numerous critical bugs, including server outages and a major plot spoiler revealed through a gameplay glitch. Negative gameplay feedback was widespread, leading to scathing reviews from prominent gaming publications.
The disastrous launch resulted in a massive surge in refund requests. Analytics firm McLuck reported a staggering 791% increase in refund demands following the game's release.
Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
