The Witcher 4's game director has confirmed that recent footage shows the same character model for Ciri, despite fan speculation about changes to her facial appearance.
Setting the Record Straight on Ciri's Design
CD Projekt recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at The Witcher 4's cinematic reveal trailer, sparking discussions among fans about subtle changes to Ciri's facial features in two close-up shots at the 2:11 and 5:47 timestamps.
Fans in the comment sections expressed varied reactions, with one particularly highlighting: "This perfectly captures a slightly more mature Ciri - she looks incredible!"

These observations followed earlier discussions where some fans expressed dissatisfaction with Ciri's appearance in the initial reveal trailer. The overwhelmingly positive response to these new shots led to speculation that CD Projekt might have revised her character design.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba addressed these claims directly: "The behind-the-scenes footage shows the exact same in-game model of Ciri as seen in our original trailer. What fans are seeing is pre-cinematic development footage - raw assets without final facial animation, lighting treatment, or camera effects that were added for the polished trailer."
Kalemba further explained: "This variation is completely normal in game development. A character's appearance often differs between raw game assets, in-engine footage, and final cinematic presentations due to different rendering processes."
The Natural Evolution of a Beloved Character
The Witcher 4 marks the beginning of a new trilogy set after The Witcher 3's events, with Ciri taking center stage as the protagonist instead of Geralt.

Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga explained their creative decision: "Ciri was always the natural choice to continue the saga. She's such a compelling, multi-dimensional character from the books, and this feels like the perfect next chapter for her story."
Kalemba emphasized their long-term vision: "We've been discussing this transition for nearly a decade. Ciri's journey presents incredible narrative opportunities - she has so much untapped potential that we're excited to explore."

Original Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle publicly endorsed the decision: "I think this is an inspired move by CD Projekt. Ciri's story offers such rich material to explore from the books, and I'm genuinely excited to see where they take her character."
