Marvel Rivals Apologizes for Banning Non-Cheaters

NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans legitimate players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for incorrectly banning numerous innocent players while attempting to eliminate cheaters. The affected players, primarily using Steam Deck, Mac, and Linux systems via compatibility layers, had their bans overturned.

NetEase's anti-cheat measures mistakenly flagged compatibility software as cheating. This resulted in wrongful bans on January 3rd, impacting users on non-Windows platforms. The company acknowledged the error, reinstated affected accounts, and apologized for the inconvenience. They also encouraged reporting of actual cheating and outlined the appeal process. The Steam Deck's Proton compatibility layer has reportedly caused similar issues with other anti-cheat systems in the past.

Separately, players are requesting the implementation of in-game character bans across all ranks. Currently, this feature is only available at Diamond rank and above, leading to frustration among lower-ranked players. Reddit users expressed concern about the imbalance created by the lack of bans in lower tiers, highlighting the difficulty of competing against overpowered characters. The community believes that extending character bans to all ranks would improve gameplay balance and provide a more level playing field, particularly for newer players learning the game's mechanics. NetEase has yet to publicly respond to this feedback.
