With Concord's August 23rd launch fast approaching, Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled their post-launch content roadmap. Discover Firewalk's plans and their expert tips for mastering Concord.
Concord's Post-Launch Roadmap
No Battle Pass Required
Launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC, Concord continues its momentum after a successful open beta. Day one marks only the beginning of a journey filled with continuous updates. Game Director Ryan Ellis, in a recent PlayStation Blog post, detailed seasonal updates brimming with new characters, maps, game modes, storylines, features, and more. He emphasized, "We see launch as just the beginning...of how we support and grow the game with our players."
Concord notably eschews the traditional Battle Pass system found in many hero shooters. Firewalk Studios explained their decision: "We wanted to focus on making Concord rewarding from day one, where simply playing, leveling up, and completing objectives yields meaningful rewards." This commitment ensures a robust experience without the pressures of a monetized progression system.
Concord Season 1: The Tempest (October 2024)
New Character and More
Season 1: The Tempest, arriving in October, introduces a new playable Freegunner, a fresh map, additional Freegunner Variants, and a host of new cosmetics and rewards. Weekly Cinematic Vignettes will further enrich the lore of the Northstar crew.
In-Game Store
An in-game store will debut in Season 1, offering purely cosmetic customization options with no impact on gameplay. Ellis clarified, "These will supplement earnable rewards and are solely cosmetic, optional, and have no gameplay impact."
Season 2 (January 2025) and Beyond
Season 2 is already on the horizon, slated for January 2025. Firewalk Studios has committed to regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year, promising a steady stream of fresh content. Ellis added, "We can’t wait to fully unpack what we have in store for Season 1."
Mastering Concord: Tips and Strategy
Ellis shared insights into optimal Concord gameplay, highlighting the innovative "Crew Builder" system. Custom Crews consist of five unique Freegunners, with the ability to include up to three copies of any Freegunner Variant. This allows for strategic team composition based on playstyle, game mode, and match challenges.
He explained that Crew Builder encourages diverse team roles. Unlike traditional Tank/Support archetypes, each Freegunner is designed for high DPS and effectiveness in direct combat. Balancing your team across the six roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden) unlocks Crew Bonuses, enhancing mobility, recoil, cooldowns, and more. These roles are defined by their impact on the match, encompassing area control, strategic positioning, and flanking maneuvers.
