Xbox MindsEye Update Delayed for Refinements

Author : Emery Update:Dec 12,2025

MindsEye, the highly anticipated action-adventure title from former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, launches today across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. However, Xbox players won't receive the crucial day one patch immediately at launch.

Build A Rocket Boy, the game's developer, explained via Reddit last night that due to "varied platform certification processes," Microsoft's console won't feature the 16GB update at release, despite describing this patch as "highly recommended... to ensure optimal gameplay exactly as we designed it."

The studio emphasized that the update delivers "essential final optimizations," including "enhanced gameplay mechanics, visual improvements, stability fixes, and performance refinements." While confirming the patch will arrive on Xbox "as soon as possible," the team couldn't provide a specific timeframe.

Delayed Patch Follows Earlier Controversy

This same update prompted Build A Rocket Boy last week to advise players to wait for official release rather than playing leaked early copies. Unpatched versions reportedly suffered technical issues, with some early players calling the game a "performance disaster."

"We want all players to experience the narrative simultaneously at launch, without preconceptions," the studio stated regarding early gameplay footage. Now Xbox fans face an additional wait for the optimal experience.

The studio's mention of "bias" sparked speculation among fans, recalling co-CEO Mark Gerhard's previous claims about coordinated social media attacks from potentially fake accounts. When questioned, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak (MindsEye's publisher) responded: "I can't confirm that theory. Let the game speak for itself when it launches on June 10th."

From Episodic Content to Full Release

MindsEye's development journey took unexpected turns, originally conceived as episodic content for the canceled Everywhere platform. The final release focuses on its narrative-driven campaign, though retains world-building tools from the abandoned metaverse project.

Players assume the role of Jacob Diaz, a former military drone operator whose neural implant has fractured his psyche. The psychological thriller challenges players to unravel the truth behind Diaz's fragmented memories and disturbing visions.
