Squad Busters, Supercell's latest MOBA RTS, has garnered over 40 million installs and generated $24 million in net revenue within its first thirty days. The game has been particularly popular in the United States, ranking first in player numbers, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea.
Despite these impressive figures, there are signs of concern for Supercell. Revenue has been declining since the launch, with Squad Busters' $24 million falling short of Brawl Stars' $43 million during its initial thirty days in 2018. Clash Royale, on the other hand, amassed over $115 million in its first month back in 2016.
More worryingly, the number of installs has also decreased, starting with a peak of 30 million in the first week and dropping below five million by the end of the thirty-day period.
Supercell Fatigue? It's clear that Supercell is experiencing diminishing returns, even with a game like Squad Busters that they heavily promoted. For context, our sister site PocketGamer.biz notes that Honkai Star Rail achieved $190 million in its first month, significantly outpacing Supercell's recent release.
While Squad Busters is undeniably a great game, it fits squarely within the established niche of Supercell's offerings. This might suggest a growing fatigue among mobile gamers towards Supercell's formula. Only time will tell how Squad Busters performs in the long run.
