Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Rework
Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare (Freddy Krueger) is getting a significant overhaul in a future patch, addressing long-standing concerns about his competitive viability. This rework focuses on enhancing his flexibility and aligning his gameplay with his iconic character traits.
The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, offering dynamic strategic options. Dream Snares are updated to travel at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs, while Dream Pallets now explode upon activation, inflicting damage and manipulating Survivor sleep timers. Crucially, both abilities interact differently with sleeping and awake Survivors, reflecting Freddy's dominance within the dream world.
Key Changes to The Nightmare:
- Swappable Abilities: Players can now switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets using the active ability button.
- Improved Dream Snares: These now move at 12 m/s, passing through walls and stairs (but not off ledges), with a 5-second cooldown. Effects vary depending on whether the Survivor is asleep or awake.
- Explosive Dream Pallets: These can be detonated, creating a 3-meter radius explosion 1.5 seconds after activation. The impact differs for sleeping and awake Survivors.
- Enhanced Teleportation: The Nightmare can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) and to Survivors actively healing within the Dream World. Teleporting near Survivors reveals them via Killer Instinct and adds time to their sleep meter.
- Teleport Adjustments: The teleport cooldown is reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, and cancellation is no longer possible.
- Dream World Awareness: Healing Survivors in the Dream World are revealed by Killer Instinct for the duration of healing (with a 3-second lingering effect).
- Alarm Clock Changes: Sleeping Survivors can use any alarm clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown afterward.
Add-on Adjustments and Unchanged Perks:
Several of The Nightmare's Add-ons will be adjusted to encourage more creative loadout choices. However, his perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged, potentially to preserve the original design intent. This aspect has raised some minor concerns within the community.
In Summary:
These changes aim to make The Nightmare a more competitive and engaging Killer, offering increased strategic depth and a more authentic representation of his character's abilities. The updated mechanics are currently available on the Public Test Build (PTB), with an official release date yet to be announced.
