Will Wright, creator of The Sims, reveals more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, in a recent Twitch livestream. Proxi, initially announced in 2018, is finally moving towards release after a recent "not-a-trailer-trailer" and this insightful interview.
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D, a charity focused on Type 1 diabetes research, provided a deeper look into the game's core mechanics. Proxi uniquely uses players' personal memories as its foundation.
Players input their memories as text, and Proxi transforms them into animated scenes within a customizable 3D environment called the "mind world." Each memory, referred to as a "mem," expands this world, populating it with AI representations of friends and family ("Proxies"). These memories, arranged on a timeline, can be connected to specific Proxies to accurately reflect the memory's context. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game platforms like Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasizes Proxi's focus on creating a deeply personal and engaging experience. He highlights the game's design philosophy: "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." The more the game centers around the player's own life, the more compelling it becomes.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
