《任天堂明星大乱斗》是任天堂的跨界格斗游戏，汇集了该公司众多标志性游戏中的角色。但与游戏名称暗示的不同，只有少数角色是真正的兄弟——有些甚至不是男性。那么，为什么叫“任天堂明星大乱斗”呢？任天堂此前并未给出官方解释，但最近，《任天堂明星大乱斗》的创造者樱井政博对此做出了说明！

在他的YouTube视频系列中，樱井政博解释说，《任天堂明星大乱斗》的名字来源于游戏系列的核心概念：“朋友们解决一些小摩擦”。据樱井政博透露，已故的前任任天堂社长岩田聪也参与了《任天堂明星大乱斗》名称的确定。

“岩田先生也参与了‘任天堂明星大乱斗’这个名字的构思。我们团队成员提出了许多可能的名称和词语，”樱井政博在视频中详细介绍道。之后，他们与《地球冒险》系列的创造者糸井重里先生举行了一次会议，最终确定了游戏系列的名称。樱井政博补充道：“岩田先生选择了‘大乱斗’这个词。他的理由是，尽管这些角色根本不是兄弟，但使用这个词语增加了这样的意味：他们并非只是在战斗——他们是一群朋友，正在解决一些小摩擦！”

除了《任天堂明星大乱斗》名称的由来，樱井政博还分享了他初次结识岩田聪以及其他与这位前任任天堂社长相关的珍贵回忆。据樱井政博透露，岩田聪亲自参与了《任天堂明星大乱斗》原型（当时名为《龙王：任天堂64格斗游戏》）的代码编程工作。
