ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
To Improve Game Stability and Localizations
FLINT, the developers behind ASTRA: Knights of Veda, have announced the removal of English dubbing support as of January 23, 2025, to ensure "better game stability and higher-quality localizations." This decision was communicated to players on January 20, highlighting the focus on enhancing the game's localization efforts.
The maintenance scheduled for January 23 will result in the removal of support for several languages, including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian languages.
While English language support remains, the in-game English voiceovers will be discontinued. Post-maintenance, players outside of Korea will have their In-Game Voice option automatically set to Japanese. FLINT reassures players that this change will not impact their ability to communicate in any of the previously supported languages.
Despite potential concerns among fans, FLINT is committed to enhancing the overall experience for "Masters of the Book," promising continued efforts to improve services and gameplay.
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
ASTRA: Knights of Veda is not alone in this decision. Other gacha games have also opted to remove English voice-over support. For instance, Square Enix's War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius announced in May 2024 the removal of English voice-overs for future content starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7, while retaining them for past chapters. This move was made to prioritize Japanese voice-overs for new content.
Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer followed suit in February 2024, completely removing English voice-overs post the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update due to financial constraints, redirecting resources to improve gameplay and future content.
Similarly, Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone made the decision to remove English voice-overs in December 2023, effective from Version 1.4, based on voice-over preferences and optimal gaming experience considerations.
These decisions across various gacha games reflect a trend toward prioritizing languages that are more widely used by players and reallocating resources to enhance game longevity and focus on elements most valued by the community. The ongoing costs associated with English voice acting, especially for games that release content over extended periods, play a significant role in these strategic choices.
