Capcom is diligently enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its launch, while also exploring ways to reduce the PC's GPU requirements. Dive deeper into Capcom's strategies for the game.
Capcom Enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds’ Performance Ahead of Launch
Efforts to Reduce GPU Requirements for PC
Capcom is actively working on improving Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance ahead of its launch, as shared through the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025.
Monster Hunter Germany released a video that demonstrates a smoother gameplay experience, featuring a hunter engaging with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern. The footage highlights the updated Prioritize Framerate mode for PS5, which boosts fps by compromising some graphical enhancements.
The post further mentioned that similar performance enhancements are being applied to the PC version, with specific focus on reducing the GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are exploring options to lower the recommended GPU requirements," as stated in the Twitter (X) post.
Currently, the game’s minimum GPU requirements are set at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Should Capcom succeed in their efforts, players may soon enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds on lower or mid-tier GPUs, thereby making the game accessible to a broader audience.
Additionally, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool, allowing players to find the optimal settings or assess if their PC can handle the game. If Capcom successfully lowers the GPU requirements for MH Wilds, players might not need to upgrade their systems immediately. Challenges Encountered in the First Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta
During the first open beta test of MH Wilds, held in October and November 2024, many players were disappointed by the game's performance issues. Feedback from Steam users highlighted the presence of low-poly NPCs and monsters, giving the game a visual quality reminiscent of early PS1 titles.
Beyond the unsettling pixelated appearance of character models, players also encountered significant fps drops and other performance hiccups. These issues persisted even on high-end PCs, and while some managed to enhance performance, it often came at the expense of graphical quality, further degrading the visual experience.
Despite the concerns raised by the initial beta test, Capcom addressed these issues on November 1, 2024, promising fixes. "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be resolved in the full game, which is already in a more advanced state than during the beta test."
Players will soon have the opportunity to experience this "improved state" as Capcom has announced a second Open Beta Test for MH Wilds, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an unidentified monster. This test will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It remains unclear, however, whether the latest performance enhancements will be included in this final beta test.
