As Stellar Blade surpasses 3 million global sales, director Hyung-tae Kim has confirmed its sequel will feature a more "substantial" narrative.
In an exclusive interview with This Is Game, published via Genki, Kim explained how development constraints impacted the original game's storytelling. While the team crafted deeper lore for Eve's universe, budget limitations forced significant cuts to cinematic sequences, leaving numerous worldbuilding elements unexplained - including the rationale behind Eve's frequent costume changes.
Why Stellar Blade's Story Felt Incomplete
The developers considered post-launch story expansions through additional cutscenes, but Kim expressed concerns about potential dissonance with players' existing interpretations. This decision paves the way for a more cohesive narrative experience in the sequel.
Sequels Take Priority
A follow-up likely won't arrive before 2027, as Shift Up currently prioritizes developing the PC version. Nevertheless, Kim assured fans the studio remains committed to delivering the sequel before decade's end.
Breaking Steam Records
The PC port launched dramatically on June 11, instantly becoming Sony's most successful single-player Steam debut. With a peak concurrent player count exceeding 192,000, it outperformed previous Sony titles like:
- Ghost of Tsushima (77,154 peak)
- God of War (73,529 peak)
- Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered (66,436 peak)
Only the multiplayer-focused Helldivers 2 achieved higher numbers.
Critical Reception
