Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary player feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. This initiative represents an unprecedented level of collaboration between developers and players.
A New Era of Game Development
Announced on February 3, 2025, Battlefield Labs, a joint venture between Battlefield Studios and Electronic Arts (EA), marks a pivotal moment in Battlefield's development. The studio acknowledges the crucial role community feedback plays in refining gameplay and ensuring a superior player experience. Players will actively participate in testing new features and mechanics, providing invaluable insights directly impacting the final product.
Initially, Battlefield Studios will invite a select group of players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a precise release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via the provided link.
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of this pre-alpha testing phase, stating, "This game has so much potential. To find that potential…now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. This collaborative approach is planned for future Battlefield titles as well.
The development team comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to various Battlefield titles).
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will focus on iterative testing of key gameplay aspects. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat and destruction mechanics, followed by weapon, vehicle, and gadget balancing. Finally, the testing will encompass map design, game modes, and squad dynamics. Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will be included to explore potential improvements.
Conquest, a large-scale mode focused on capturing control points, utilizes a ticket-based system where teams lose tickets upon respawn or enemy flag control. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with attackers regaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemy soldiers.
Refinement of the class system is also a key objective. While confident in the game's progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the value of player feedback in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
