inZOI Developer Responds to Denuvo Controversy
Official Removal of Denuvo DRM Announced
The inZOI development team has confirmed the removal of Denuvo DRM from their upcoming title. Reports surfaced within the past day indicating that the Creative Studio mode demo included the controversial anti-tamper software. The implementation of Denuvo has historically sparked debates within the gaming community, with numerous reports suggesting potential performance impacts.
Designed as digital rights management technology, Denuvo aims to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution of PC games by making piracy more difficult.
In a March 26 Steam blog post, inZOI Director Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim addressed player concerns, confirming that Friday's Early Access version would launch without DRM technology. "Our initial decision to implement Denuvo was intended to protect the game's integrity and ensure fairness for legitimate players. However, after carefully considering community feedback, we recognized this approach conflicted with our players' expectations," Kjun explained.
The director also apologized for failing to disclose Denuvo's inclusion in the Creative Studio mode. While acknowledging that removing DRM might increase piracy risks, Kjun emphasized this change would enable greater game customization. "We believe prioritizing player freedom from launch will foster more creative and enduring experiences within our community," he stated.
Commitment to Modding Support Reiterated
The surprise inclusion of Denuvo particularly confused players given inZOI's strong emphasis on modding support, as such software typically restricts modification capabilities.
"As highlighted during our Online Showcase, we're dedicated to making inZOI exceptionally mod-friendly," Kjun affirmed. "Our first phase of official mod support launches in May, enabling content creation through tools like Maya and Blender. This represents just our starting point - we plan to continually expand modding capabilities across all game aspects for deeper customization."
The director announced upcoming detailed posts about modding support. Krafton remains focused on prioritizing player feedback to refine the gaming experience.
inZOI enters Early Access on PC March 28, 2025, with full releases planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The complete version's launch date remains unconfirmed.
