A purported remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, developed by Virtuos Studio using Unreal Engine 5, has been detailed by MP1st. The information, reportedly sourced from an anonymous developer's portfolio, suggests a significant departure from the original. This isn't a simple remaster, but a complete reimagining.
The ex-Virtuos employee's portfolio highlights extensive overhauls. Game mechanics such as stamina management, stealth, blocking, archery, damage feedback, and the user interface are all slated for significant upgrades. Blocking, for instance, is said to draw inspiration from Soulslike games, aiming to address criticisms of the original's system. Damage calculations are also being reworked to include visible impact reactions, and stamina is expected to be more intuitive. The UI and archery mechanics will also be modernized.
MP1st theorizes that the project, initially planned as a remaster (as hinted at in leaked Microsoft documents), has evolved into a full-scale remake. While sources confirm the remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a possible release within 2024.
