In a revealing interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, disclosed that CD Projekt Red had initial doubts about whether a sprawling narrative could successfully blend with an open-world game structure. This concern stemmed from the fear that the ambitious storytelling scope of The Witcher 3 might not harmonize with the freedom of an open-world design.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz
Despite these reservations, the development team at CD Projekt Red decided to take a bold step forward, ultimately crafting one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time—The Witcher 3. This leap of faith not only paid off but set a new standard for narrative-driven open-world games.
Now, Tomaszkiewicz heads the team at Rebel Wolves, where they are working on their new project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternate medieval Eastern Europe infused with dark fantasy elements, this game centers around vampires. The development is targeted for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. While an official release date has yet to be set, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer.
